I had a feeling that my site’s revenue and growth trajectory might taper off a little bit as the summer came to a close.
I’ve mentioned in previous updates that “peak” season for my niche is definitely the summer months, even though there’s year round interest.
So I wasn’t surprised when the site’s revenue dropped a little bit in August.
It’s not all bad news though! The site actually had more traffic in August compared to July, so positive signs continue to come for the Million Dollar Niche Site Project.
What Got Done This Month
- I wrote and posted 3 articles to the site, totaling 4,109 words
- 13 articles totaling 32,944 words written by writers I hired were posted to the site
- I spent $1,500 on my managed link building campaign with The Hoth to acquire backlinks to my site
- I ordered 20,000 more words worth of content with Content Pit
At the beginning of the month I ended up doing one more 20,000 word batch of Content Pit articles just to have some extra articles to post in case the staff writer takes some time off.
I also upped my link building spend to $1,500 per month to hopefully grow the site even more and push some of my articles from ranking in the 4-10 range on Google results into spots 1-3, where the real money is at.
Other than that though it was more of the same strategy we’ve been going with so far. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

The page that drives most of the revenue for my Rakuten affiliate account dropped from position 1 to position 2 for a key search term, so I’m going to get some backlinks pointed to that page to hopefully get it back to 1. I also think people were generally slightly less likely to buy the product because it’s about shoulder season for the niche.
Ezoic was huge for me this month!
Traffic wise, the site continued to bring in more users month over month in August. It had slightly more than 66,000 unique visitors, mostly from organic search, which is a great number for a 9 month old website built on the budget I was working with.
Profit and Loss
All in all, pretty happy with August – the site is making enough revenue to make some serious reinvestments back into more links, content, and Pinterest management. So hopefully all of those investments continue to pay off into the fall!
